Method
- Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and warm water into a soft dough. Rest 15 minutes, then divide and roll into 6 ovals.
- Fry each in hot oil for about 1 minute per side until puffy and golden, folding gently to form a taco shape. Drain.
- Brown the beef, drain, and stir in the taco seasoning with a splash of water.
- Fill each shell with beef, lettuce, cheese, tomato, and a dollop of sour cream.
- Serve immediately.
Notes
The chalupa shell is a flatbread that is fried until puffy and crisp on the outside, chewy inside. Fry briefly so it stays pliable enough to fold.
