Ingredients

  • 4 cans cut green beans 14.5 oz each, drained
  • 4 strips bacon chopped
  • 1/4 onion diced
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt to taste

Equipment

  • Saucepan or pot

Method

  1. In a pot over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until it starts to crisp.
  2. Add the diced onion and cook 3 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the chicken broth, sugar, garlic powder, pepper, and salt, and bring to a simmer.
  4. Add the drained green beans, reduce the heat to low, and simmer 20-25 minutes until tender and flavorful.
  5. Taste, adjust the seasoning, and serve warm with some of the broth.

Notes

Canned green beans give the soft, Southern-style texture the restaurant serves. Simmering them in bacon and broth is what builds the savory flavor.
