Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk about 110F
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast 1 packet
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 3 tablespoons butter melted, plus more for brushing
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Equipment

  • Stand mixer or large bowl
  • Baking pan

Method

  1. Stir the sugar into the warm milk, sprinkle the yeast over, and let sit 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix in the egg and melted butter, then the flour and salt. Knead 6-8 minutes until smooth. Cover and rise 1 hour until doubled.
  3. Roll the dough out and cut into 16 squares. Place in a greased pan, cover, and rise 45 minutes.
  4. Bake at 350F for 12-15 minutes until golden on top. Brush generously with melted butter and serve warm with cinnamon honey butter.

Notes

The squares are the Texas Roadhouse signature - cut them evenly so they bake uniformly. Brush with butter twice (once out of the oven, once a minute later) for that glossy, buttery top.
